what is steampunk?

like ive been into anime manga gaming and many other kinds of otaku-like stuff but ive never heard of that unless its the Steam Games thing like halflife etc. Could any1 tell me what Steampunk is?

Steampunk style basically originates from the idea of an alternate history where Newtonian physics never existed.
It takes place in the past where the machines they have are much more advanced than usual for the time period. These are often powered by steam and often don't make real-world sense
Occasionally electricity existed but it is treated as an almost "magical" entity due to no one understanding it
It came from Sci-fi books originally
It is set in the Victorian ages, which is where the main clothing ideas are pulled from (corsets, waistcoats, poofy skirts)
Its actually really difficult to explain XDD
But alot of people like to make costumes based on it, like their own OCs
Oh also airships exist
